ASTM 6584 - Biodiesel Testing Equipment & Consultation Services Available
ASTM 6584 is the Standard Test Method for the Determination of Free and Total Glycerin in B-100 Biodiesel Methyl Esters By Gas Chromatography. Perform ASTM 6584 with our SRI Gas Chromatograph to yield free and total glycerin content in BioDiesel fuel.

There is also an alternative spectrophotometric method for the determination of free glycerol in biodiesel. After a review of the existing methods, a new procedure based on periodate oxidation of glycerol, leading to the preparation of formaldehyde, on reaction with acetylacetone and on spectrophotometric measurement at 410 nm is becoming common. This method is simple, quick and economic and seems to be sufficiently reliable.
The use of near-infrared (NIR) analysis must also be considered. The efforts of private sector agricultural and industry leaders have also recognized the need to reduce lab costs, increase sample throughput, and boost analytical efficiency by utilizing the power of NIR analysis. NIR spectrometers are ideal for rapidly predicting material content and multiple constituent analysis (i.e. moisture, starch, lignin, cellulose, etc.) of biomass materials. Time-saving Vis/NIR technology has greatly increased the efficiency and cost effectiveness of Biodiesel fuel testing.
